One of the biggest issues which will face Fife in the coming years is energy companies drilling for gas. I aim to make sure that communities have a strong voice and can say no to energy companies and both the Scottish and UK governments.
Fossil fuel companies know they can make a lot of money from drilling under the Firth of Forth, with almost none of it coming back into the local economy. Previously Zara has challenged licenses and tried to hold energy companies to account further up the river between Alloa and Stirling. Not only are there better ways to get energy without harming the environment, but gas extraction would blight local communities to almost no benefit.
Both the SNP and Labour are happy to let energy companies come before people. We previously succeeded in stopping oil companies from making dangerous ship-to-ship transfers that could have led to devastating pollution. Greens are the only party who have ruled out gas extraction in the Forth and will continue to do so.
